Menopause Symptoms
Menopause is a biochemical process that happens in a woman’s body as her hormone levels begin to decline as she exits her fertile years. The most debilitating symptoms of menopause include hot flashes, insomnia, anxiety, depression, decreased sex drive, vaginal dryness, and heart palpitations.
Menopause Medications & Conventional Treatment
Conventional medicine treatment for menopause includes synthetic hormone replacement therapy, birth control pills, and antidepressants. Unfortunately, all of these medications have side effects. Side effects of antidepressants include low sex drive, which is also a symptom of menopause, birth control pills can cause unwanted weight gain and estrogen dominance, and synthetic hormone replacement therapy has been known to cause breast cancer, heart disease and stroke.
Menopause Diagnosis - Natural Medicine
Many times when a woman enters my office, she may be complaining of anxiety, insomnia and heart palpitations. She may not realize that she is beginning to enter menopause. I take the totality of the symptoms that she’s experiencing, run a blood test looking for an elevated FSH level, and do a saliva test to measure her estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol. I take the information from the blood test, the saliva test and her symptoms to come to the diagnosis of menopause.
Menopause Treatment with Natural Medicine
Most women who are experiencing menopausal symptoms have decreased adrenal reserve. This happens from a lifetime of stress. During a woman’s fertile years, her adrenal glands are busy pumping out cortisol so that she can react to the stressors in her life. When the adrenal glands become depleted during her fertile years and she begins to move into menopause she has low adrenal reserve. This sets her up for the symptoms of menopause.
Menopause Supplements and Herbs
It is essential that we treat the adrenal glands when a woman is having menopausal symptoms with herbs such as licorice, ashwaganda and Siberian ginseng. My goal with every woman in menopause is to get those hormones balanced so that she can experience a decrease in symptoms. Every woman receives an individualized dietary food plan focused on organic whole food. She may receive homeopathic remedy. And if she needs to, we may consider prescribing bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
Natural Medicine Menopause Success
I have treated hundreds of women going through menopause. When they follow my protocol, one hundred percent see a resolution of their symptoms within two to twelve weeks.
Menopause Diet and Natural Living
If a woman wants to reduce her menopausal symptoms, I recommend that she adopts a natural living lifestyle. This would include exercise, eating real unprocessed food, and putting a naturopathic doctor on her team to partner with her to reduce those symptoms of menopause and keep her healthy in the years to come.
